After our week long stay in Suzail, trading our wares, we decided that it was time to head back to Shadowdale and our keep, Castle Krag. We had heard rumors in the past day or so that the Zhentarim had returned to Shadowdale and had taken control. This worried us greatly, as the Black Network have nothing but their own expansionism at heart. Dyonet attempted to teleport us there, however something went wrong with the incantation that she nor Neshama understood. It was as if her spell failed much in the same mannerism that our hourglass teleportation method failed before we left Wheloon. After some discussion we decided to go back to Shadowdale the tried and true method, via road travel. It would take us roughly a week to reach our destination, however we felt that there was no other choice. We paged the stableboy to our inn and had him ready our horses and carts while we packed our equipment up. After a half hour the stableboy arrived with our carts and we headed out along Calantar’s Way toward Arabel.

We made it to Arabel without incident and headed onward toward Tilverton. Once we arrived near the edge of the former town we could see the dark, concave space filled with shadows and flitting regions of deeper darkness in the center of the crater. We skirted around the edge of the town to err on the side of caution. As we rode we could see the Shadow Gap looming on the horizon ahead of us like an omnious omen. We realized it would take us a few more hours to reach the Shadow Gap and night would be upon us before then. We decided to make camp a bit away from the road and post our watches.

Throughout first watch, it was very cold and gusty, which made the powdery snow swoop up around us, although it was uncomfortable, it passed without incident. I woke up Tyreal for second watch and curled up immediately and fell asleep. Suddenly I was aroused to the sound of Tyreal’s voice yelling, “We’re under attack, form up defensively!” I immediately jumped up and grabbed my axe in one swift movement, only to have an arrow pierce my shoulder. We fought for a few minutes before really having an idea what was attacking us. We had been encompassed by a score of orcs and two frost giants. We fought under the heavy barrage of the arrows for quite some time. Finally though the orcs showed themselves by moving closer and closer to our party leading to their demise. The frost giants proved quite a tough challenge however our sorcerer, Neshama, and our wizard, Dyonet, made rather fast work of them. After a remnant of sleep we were again, plodding down the slushy road after a brief bit to eat.

We passed through the Shadow Gap without incident, early in the afternoon. As we continued on toward Shadowdale we could begin to see a small village of sort on the horizon. As we moved closer, something seemed amiss, and we became much more cautious in our approach.

Upon reaching the edge of the small village, we could hear demanding voices that sounded as if they were directed at the farmers. It appeared a band of ruffians had taken to village captive and was demanding anything of value. Tyreal and I approached directly and attempted to address the apparent leader of the group, however we were attacked on the spot.  Within a matter of moments we had the situation well under control, we freed the captive farmers and returned their valuables to them. We inquired as to the Zhentarim control over Shadowdale and they indicated that as much was true. They also indicated that Lord Mourngrym freely gave the Zhents control of Shadowdale. This took us quite aback and reinforced our hastening toward Shadowdale. The grateful farmers offered to let us rest the night but we insisted that we must be off.

Late in the afternoon, Shadowdale became visible in the distance; however I could not help but wonder what awaited us when we arrived.

Pretty cool lil website I stumbled upon, Bosskillers.com, it has raid strategy guides as well as rankings for guilds on every server. You can also submit guides for any particular boss and have a shot at making some money for your handywork.

I ran across something interesting today that I didn’t know existed. If you go here it will take you to a text only website that displays any server alerts, just like when you login to the game. By using this you can be aware of any scheduled downtime or maintenance at work or elsewhere, without having to actually log in to the WoW client. I also went ahead and added it to the links on the right under Blizzard Links.

After listening to the latest episode of The Instance podcast, they mentioned a few cool sites that are worth checking out. The first one is for those who want to check out their server auction house while away from WoW. If you’ll go to Warcraft Auction House. You’ll see what I mean, very interesting concept. They are updating every listed server AH information roughly every 2 hours. Another good website that was mentioned for Burning Crusade Beta information is WoWAddicts, after checking it out it has a ton of good information and screenshots as it pertains to the beta.

Blizzard Entertainment® today announced that the release date for World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade, the highly anticipated expansion for World of Warcraft, will be in January 2007. By adding a few extra weeks to the development cycle beyond its original target date, Blizzard will be able to extend the closed beta test and further refine the new content that will ship with the game. “We appreciate the enthusiasm surrounding World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade, and we’re excited about putting the finishing touches on all of the new content,” said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We feel confident that the extra time spent polishing the game will result in the high-quality experience that our players expect and deserve.” Blizzard began the closed-beta phase of testing on World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade earlier this month. The January 2007 release window will allow extra time for current beta testers to participate in the final stages of development and continue providing valuable feedback. Further information on specific worldwide release dates, pricing, and other details will be announced in the near future. This was verified on the Us forums here and the European forums here.

Additionally some more BC:Beta information:

Enchanting
Tseric - Items will have a level requirement for disenchantment in the expansion. The level of Enchanting required is based off the quality of the item. Basically, I have seen blues which require Enchanting of 225 to be able to disenchant it. This places necessity of the profession into the aspect of disenchanting. We would prefer players to actually fully invest into a profession, rather than just taking an apprentice level for a single ability.

Bag Space
Tseric - There are more available bag slots in the bank. 20-slot bags will be available. We are increasing potential bag slots for a character, but we don’t intend to change the intial bag size. That would simply alter the early game. However, at end game, expect an increase to the capacity of bags.

Combat Ratings @ 70
Eyonix - We’ve seen a number of players (since we’ve released the combat rating information) display a desire to be empowered with the knowledge of the appropriate level 70 values. As a result, we’ve gathered them for you. Enjoy your weekend of theorycrafting! :P

Combat Ratings conversions at level 70 (rounded to 1 decimal point):

  • Weapon Skill Rating: 3.9 rating grants 1 skill point
  • Defense Rating: 2.4 rating grants 1 defense skill.
  • Dodge Rating: 18.9 rating grants 1% dodge
  • Parry Rating: 31.5 rating grants 1% parry
  • Block Rating: 7.9 rating grants 1% block chance
  • Hit Rating: 15.8 rating grants 1% hit chance
  • Spell Hit Rating: 12.6 rating grants 1% spell hit chance
  • Critical Strike Rating: 22.1 rating grants 1% critical strike chance
  • Spell Critical Strike Rating: 22.1 rating grants 1% spell critical strike chance
  • Haste Rating: 15.8 rating grants 1% haste
  • Spell Haste Rating: 15.8 rating grants 1% spell haste
  • Resilience Rating: 39.4 rating grants 1% less chance of being struck by any type of critical strike, and 2% less damage taken from critical strikes

Profession Update
Some very cool information over at the BC site regarding professions, make sure you read about it here.
